Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Lillias/Lily Fraser was born on 18 August 1863 in Walls and Sandness in the Shetland Islands – the daughter of Walter Fraser, a fisherman and small crofter, and Lillias Jamieson.

Her mother died in 1868 and her father re-married the following year. (See 70 Elspeth Fraser)

In the 1870s the family emigrated to New Zealand and they settled in Dunedin.

Lily married George Fraser, a mariner, in 1889 and they had two sons.

When Lily signed the suffrage petition they were living in Duncan St, Dunedin.

George died in 1935 and Lily died on 30 September 1946 – they are buried with their son in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
