Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Marion Hamilton was born about 1853 in Lanarkshire, Scotland.

She married Andrew Ramsay, a shepherd, on 9 April 1875 in Stonehouse, Lanarkshire and they had a daughter before they sailed for Otago in 1876 on the Timaru.

They settled in Green Island, near Dunedin, where Andrew worked as a van driver and they had a further nine children, three who died in infancy.

Marion signed the suffrage petition at, nearby, Walton Park.

She died at her home on 11 November 1918 and Andrew died in 1932 – they are buried in the family grave in the Green Island Cemetery.
