Margaret Franklin was born about 1858 in Ayrshire, Scotland – the daughter of Thomas Franklin, a baker, and Margaret Spence.
She emigrated to Otago in 1879 on the Westland and the following year on March 26th she married John McLennan in the Palmerston parish.
They had 8 children, one who died in infancy. When Margaret signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Palmerston and John was working as a labourer.
He died at their home in 1914 and Margaret died on October 4th 1933. They are buried together in the Palmerston Cemetery.
