Agnes Canter was born about 1839 in London.

She emigrated to New Zealand where she married, gardener, Alexander Wardlaw on 31 October 1867 in Dunedin.

They had six children and when Agnes signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Leith Walk, North East Valley.

Alexander died in 1912 and Agnes died at her home on 9 July 1920 – they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
