Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Mary Ann Barbara Howorth, known as Pollie, was born in 1856 in New Zealand – the daughter of Thomas Howorth, a farmer, and Barbara Runciman.

When Mary signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Walton Park, Green Island.

She married Joseph Hatton, an accountant and widower, on 15 November 1906 in Dunedin – he died in 1922 and is buried in the Hatton family grave in the Southern Cemetery.

Mary then married Adolphus Antony Henry, a photo mechanic, in 1924 – she died on 16 February 1939 and is buried with Adolphus, who died in 1949, in the Green Island Cemetery.
