Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Susanna/Susan Smith was born about 1847 in Leeds, Yorkshire, England.

In 1851 she was living with Abraham Scott, a timber dealer and merchant, and his wife Martha in Leeds.

She appears to have taken their name and she came to New Zealand in the early 1860s.

Susan married John Bartlett Green, a sawmiller and farmer, in 1864 in Dunedin and they had two children, one who died in childhood.

They lived on Stewart Island for a time before moving to the Owaka district in 1866.

When Susan signed the suffrage petition they were living on their farm 'Pleasant Grove' in the Owaka Valley.

John died in 1908 and after this Susan moved to Dunedin where she died on 26 February 1924.

They are buried in the Owaka Cemetery.
