Born on 23 September 1816 in Cook Street, Coventry, Warwickshire, Ann was christened at Cow Lane, formerly Jordan Well Particular Baptist, Coventry in 1816. She was the daughter of Ann Horsfall (1792-1852) and Rev Thomas Newsom (1788-1842), a non conformist couple who had married on 7 September 1812 at Saint Martin, Birmingham, Warwickshire. Siblings included: Thomas 1813, Henry 1815, Jabez 1819, Samuel 1821 and Sarah 1823. Ann was absent from the family residence in Hertford Square, Coventry by 1841. In fact she was living a street away, was married to Frederick Haymes and had 8 month old Arthur. In 1851 Frederick and Ann were living in Hertford Square, Coventry.
It is unclear what happened to Frederick. On 26 February the Egmont set sail from London with 56 assisted immigrants. Ann, Arthur and Francis Henry Haymes were among those listed. They arrived in Auckland on 4 June 1858.
Arthur was listed as a petitioner in Auckland in 1863, the year he married Charlotte Anderson. By 1865 Arthur was resident in Napier. It is possible that Ann moved first to Napier and then Thames Coromandel when her son Arthur moved with his young family. All were living in Napier by 1886 although the death of Arthur has not been found.
Ann died on 10 August 1894, at Hastings, aged 78. After her funeral she was buried in the Hastings cemetery.
