Cross on Mt Erebus

Cross on Mt Erebus

This wooden cross to the victims of the Erebus disaster was erected above Scott Base by recovery workers. The original caption to the photograph reads: 'DC10 cross erected on nunatak near accident site. Mt Erebus behind'. In 1986 an aluminium cross replaced this original one, which had been eroded by ice and snow.
