
Portait of Wiremu (Wi) Pere, circa 1885.
A runholder and politician, Pere was of mixed Te Aitanga-a-Mahaki, Te Whanau a Kai, Rongowhakata and European descent. He represented Eastern Maori in the House of Representatives from 1884 to 1887, and from 1893 to 1905.
