Portait of Wiremu (Wi) Pere, c1885.

Pere a runholder and politician, was of mixed Te Aitanga-a-Mahaki, Te Whanau a Kai, Rongowhakata and European descent. He represented Eastern Maori in the House of Representatives from 1884 to 1887, and from 1893 to 1905.
