Margaret Currie Herbert was born on 28 April 1857 in Corstorphine, Edinburghshire, Scotland – the daughter of David Herbert, a farmer, and Jane Thomson.
She emigrated to New Zealand with her family in the 1860s and she married John McPherson Watt, a school teacher, on 14 July 1875 at Havelock, north of Dunedin.
They had three children and when Margaret signed the suffrage petition they were living in Hampden and Margaret’s occupation was teacher.
Her sister also signed in Hampden. (See 301 M Campbell)
John died at Hampden in 1915 and Margaret died on 2 October 1937, also in Hampden.
They are buried together in the Hampden Cemetery.
